THURSDAY • APRIL 7

B4church   -

In this week’s passages, Jesus demonstrates to us what true surrender to God looks like. As His time on Earth drew to a close, He got away with His disciples to pray. Jesus knew what was coming and asked God if there were any way to avoid the pain and suffering He knew He would endure. That was not an easy thing for Jesus. He was in genuine anguish. However, He humbly surrendered to His Father, saying, “Not my will, but yours be done.” Jesus is a true example of both the pain and the beauty of surrender during difficult times.

Scriptures for this week:
Matthew 26:36-46, Mark 14:32-42, Luke 22:39-46

Grace and Truth

By: Cassandra Dieterich (High School Pastor)

I love how the disciples were so human. Jesus was both grace-filled and honest about His disappointment in them. He cut to the chase with His frustration with them for not staying awake. But, He also spoke to the fact that this is something we will deal with as humans. So, I can relate when Jesus said, “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

In the last couple of days, I have realized how easy it is to succumb to the desires of our “flesh.” Of course, it isn’t always the most extreme and sinful thing, but it’s sometimes simply choosing the “okay” option instead of God’s best for our life.

In following Jesus, I have realized that there aren’t always huge, life-altering decisions that prove my faithfulness. Instead, daily choices impact the relationship I have with the Father.

As we continue to walk in a relationship with Jesus, we get to learn how to hold the tension of grace and truth. We get to receive grace freely while also receiving the truth of what God has called us to. In daily decisions, we continue to choose Jesus right where we are.

Questions for Reflection:

Think: How do you see Jesus respond with grace and truth to the disciples? Where have you felt in your own life that “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak”? How does this passage encourage or challenge you?

Pray: Today, ask that God would show you where you have succumbed to the desires of the flesh, accepting the “okay” instead of God’s best. Then, ask God to help you receive His grace in these situations.

Respond: What daily choices can you make this week to strengthen your relationship with Jesus? How can you hold grace and truth today?
